Being Thankful

How marvelous to have a holiday focused on gratitude.

img_2828I’m noticing an abundance of beauty this thanksgiving season – in people, in the harvest season, in my own heart. Aware of the disparity of wealth, safety, and justice in the world, I’ve often felt guilty for the gifts and blessings in my life. So I’m trusting in the power of a grateful heart, and allowing myself to be thankful with abandon for the gifts I see. I love a prayer that our family has often used by John Philip Newell, “We give thanks for the gift of this day, and pray for the life of the world”. I want to live into the paradox of thanksgiving woven together with urgent prayer for the life of this precious world.

It’s so cliche and yet true – we routinely take the gifts of life for granted. Need some time for reflection on the gifts and challenges in life? Our fall retreat day is just such an opportunity. There’s still room to join us! October 19, 10-2:30. Details and registration here.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!
